I’m so excited, guys. In case you’re new to this, my friend Charlotte had this phenomenal idea to Swap It Like It’s Hot in 2014. We started swapping and fixing up thrift store items with 9 (I think?) bloggers and this THIRD round has THIRTY-THREE bloggers. (Find links from previous swaps here and here.)We all know I’m not the most consistent blogger, so to say I am humbled and intimidated by some of my fellow bloggers in the swap is THE understatement of the year. If you haven’t been following along for the past week, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? But also, take the weekend (how convenient?!) to use the links at the bottom of my post to see ALL 33 projects. Leave comments telling people how kick-butt their stuff is. They like that. 🙂
This go-round I received swap items from the lovely Erin at Live Pretty On A Penny. She is lovely, like, really. I got to meet her at Haven 2014 and she was SO sweet and also has a gorgeous home! She recently did some board-and-batten and her son’s nursery is THE cutest. Check her out!
Erin sent me 3 items, but unfortunately, only two survived the journey from GA to VA. After seeing Sarah’s makeover of a broken item from Swap #2, I tried really hard to think of something to do with my broken pot. Of course, my moment of brilliance happened YESTERDAY when I didn’t have time to carry it through. I’ll see if I can update another day with my hopeful makeover of my broken flower pot.
I got this cute little hexagonal box. It feels kind of like wood, but seems like some sort of lacquered thick paper. This sweet brass box is my favorite. It’s made in India and was sold in The Midshipmen Store in a previous life. I couldn’t wait to shine her up! This is where I started to feel like some kind of makeover powers-that-be were against me. I reaaaalllly wanted to cover the hexagonal box in some cool, patterned duck tape. I had seen some snakeskin I liked (which is really not me, normally) and I couldn’t find it at ANY store the entire time I was searching. Of course, my search was shut down by two weeks of snow. Yes, northern friends, it shut.us.down. even with only a few inches. So, I thought I might spray paint. But, umm…we’ve had one day over 40 degrees in 3 weeks and that day had rain. WHAT IS GOING ON?! So, I went to Office Max in search of another fun pattern and saw all the other animal prints. I decided on the “realistic” cheetah print from the Wildcat Sanctuary. I literally own one animal print item and it is a scarf a student gave me. This is so outside my box it’s not even funny. But, we have been working on making over our office/craft room and I thought it would be super fun to keep pencils/pens in on my desk. PLUS I have my little exotic brass India box and it’s perfect for some mints. Everyone needs mints at their desk right? How else do you convince your husband that you’ve brushed your teeth when he comes home at noon and you’ve really been sitting on YouTube? No? That’s just me? Well, whatever.
Here they are all ready for office supply action!
Now, I sent my items to Lauren at The Thinking Closet. Here’s what she had to work with:
I can’t wait to see what she did!
Because it’s Friday and the weekend is coming, here are the links to the other 33 amazing blogs/projects so you can see all of their makeover goodness and get inspired to go thrifting this weekend! Thanks for joining us for round THREE of #SwapItLikeItsHot! 🙂
